    ROLE:

    Working in the Global Operations team, and with close collaboration and direction with the General Counsel, the Trade and Regulatory Compliance Analyst will support Riverbed’s export and import compliance and product regulatory compliance efforts. This is an opportunity to serve as a subject matter expert in a global information technology company, working directly with senior leadership. The Trade and Regulatory Compliance Analyst is expected to work with multiple organizations, including operations, sales operations, support, engineering and product management.  Additionally, the position must maintain good working relationships and actively cooperate with internal and external customers, business partners, outside consultants and applicable government agencies. The Trade and Regulatory Compliance Analyst will be responsible for documenting processes, training of internal departments, developing documentation for customers and partners, and responding to ad hoc trade compliance issues.  This is a generalist position, responsible for supporting a wide range of trade and regulatory issues under the direction of the legal department and with assistance from other Riverbed departments and outside consultants as necessary.

     

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Classify information technology products for import and export using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and the Export Administration Regulations.
    • Determine which shipments or transfers will require export licenses, and obtain export licenses, working with counsel as necessary
    • Work with the IT department and vendors to maintain and improve Riverbed’s Global Trade Management system for automated restricted and denied party screening.
    • Provide trade compliance training across the organization.
    • Respond to inquiries from customers and logistics service providers regarding product classification information, documentation requirements, and other import and export regulations to ensure timely clearance.
    • Determine the proper compliance information to be included on commercial invoices, Automated Export System (AES) filings, and other shipping documents.
    • Assist engineering and product management in documenting product regulatory compliance for customers and partners.
    • Update policies and procedures to assure compliance with changing import and export laws and regulations.
    • Assist in preparation and participate in government import/export audits.
    • Annual and semi-annual encryption reports as required under the Export Administration Regulations.
    • Assist in identifying new procedures and methods to expedite the import and export of shipments and deliveries to customers, and identify cost savings plans for the efficient and compliant operation of global trade.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Four + years of experience in international trade and compliance and/or IT product regulatory/homologation compliance.
    • Working knowledge and experience with import and export regulations, including restricted party screening.
    • Bachelors Degree or higher.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to implement and conduct training programs.
    • Strong research skills.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office. 

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience with U.S. and international trade issues specific to encryption.
    • Familiarity with European Union export controls.
    • Some experience with the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
    • Information technology product homologation experience.
    • Familiarity with international regulations applicable to IT equipment, such as WEEE, RoHS and REACH.
    • Desire to learn.
    • Self-starter with the ability to meet or exceed deadlines, prioritize, multi-task, and maintain flexibility in fast-paced, changing environment.
